The Moulin Rouge Hotel is located in Las Vegas and opened on May 24, 1955. Previous to the hotel's opening, black entertainers were denied access to casinos and hotel dining areas in Las Vegas. This is why they decided to create an integrated hotel right between a predominately white area and the black part of town.

Great black singers and musicians such as Sammy Davis, Nat King Cole, and Louis Armstrong would often perform. In addition, white performers including, George Burns, Jack Benny, and Frank Sinatra would stop by to perform and gamble.

Sadly, the Moulin Rouge hotel was only open for about six months after it was opened due to poor financial management. The hotel was still in tact until 2003 when it was destroyed by a fire. The neon sign and facade were being preserved and they built a new one, but another fire destroyed what was left on May 6, 2009 but the sign was luckily moved to the Las Vegas Neon Museum prior to the fire.
